Adventure Camp

_____________________________________________________________

Every year in August, me and my family go to Adventure Camp with our Church.  Our Children’s Pastor takes us counselors and approximately 100-125 kids to the Shenandoah Mountains from Sunday to Saturday to spend time with God.  I wanted to share some of what we discuss in our Counselor meeting prior to leaving for camp as well as our Camp Themes and verses.

We drive 3 hours away (180 miles) because according to Henrietta Mears says:

“If you place people in an atmosphere where they feel close to God and challenge them with His word, they will make decisions.”

Camp is a life changing experience for ALL who are involved, campers, counselors, support teams, parents, those who give so that no kid will be left behind.  Since I have been going to camp, I have grown so much and God has used me in so many ways.  Every year I go to camp, I learn new names, see new faces, and build new relationships.  I pray that God continues to strengthen me and these relationships so that I can be a good influence in the lives of these kids.

I can’t wait to see what God has in store for this year!

Adventure Camp 2012 – Bible Boot Camp

Learning to Fight Life’s Everyday Battles with God’s Help! – Ephesians 6:11-18

Put on the full Armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the full Armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.  Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace in additional to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.

Adventure Camp 2011 – Learning to Share Your Faith

“A lesson in Gratitude, Compassion, Forgiveness, Grace, and Faithfulness” – Psalms 25: 4-10

Make me to know your ways, O’ Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Remember your mercy O’ Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O’ Lord! Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Adventure Camp 2010 – “Climbing the Mountain”

“A lesson in TRUST, FAITH, OBEDIENCE, COURAGE, and PRIDE” Psalms 100: 1-5

Shout with joy to the Lord, O’ Earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the lord is God. He made us, and wear His.  We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving: go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation.

Camp EDGE 2009

Romans 12: 1-21

Brothers and sisters, God has shown you His mercy. So I am asking you to offer up your bodies to Him while you are still alive. Your bodies are a holy sacrifice that is pleasing to God. when you offer your bodies to God, you are worshiping Him. Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what He wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.

God’s grace has been given to me. So here is what I say to every one of you. Don’t think of yourself more highly than you should. Be reasonable when think about yourself. Keep in mind the amount of faith God has given you. Each of us has one body with many parts. And the parts do not all have the same purpose. So also we are many persons. But in Christ we are one body. And each part of the body belongs to all the other parts. We all have gifts. They differ in keeping with the grace that God has give each of us. Do you have the gift of prophecy? Then use it in keeping with the faith you have. Is it your gift to serve? Then serve. Is it teaching? Then teach. Is it telling others how they should live? Then tell them. Is it giving to those who are in need? Then give freely.  Is it being a leader? Then work hard at it. Is it showing mercy? Then do it cheerfully.

Love must be honest and true. Hate what is evil. Hold on to what is good. Love each other deeply. Honor others more than yourselves. Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord. When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful. Share with God’s people who are in need. Welcome others into your homes.

Bless those who hurt you. Bless them, and do not call down curses on them. Be joyful with those who are joyful. Be sad with those who are sad. Agree with each other. Don’t be proud. Be willing to be a friend of people who aren’t considered important. Don’t think that you are better than others.

Don’t pay back evil with evil. Be careful to do what everyone thinks is right. If possible, live in peace with everyone. Do that as much as you can.

My friends, don’t try to get even. Leave room for God to show His anger. It is written, “I am the one who judges people. I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Do just the opposite, scripture says, “If you enemies are hungry, give the food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. By doing these things, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.” Don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good.
